Songs Worth Learning - 22

There are certain songs that I think every guitar player should try to learn. Either they have cool guitar parts, or they will expand your playing skills, or they will introduce you to a style of music you may not have played before. I am going to recommend songs in several styles of music and explain why I think they should be added to your “play list.” Obviously, these are my choices, and no doubt, some will disagree with my choices. But each song has something good to offer so I think they are worth learning.

This will eventually be a huge list so I am going to post them one song at a time in no particular order. Take your time and enjoy each one.

Down On The Corner - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Many Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) songs are worth learning. John Fogerty has a real talent for writing catchy songs with cool guitar parts. New guitar players will find a lot to like in their songs. They typically featured relatively easy guitar rhythms and cool guitar riffs and solos. You can learn a lot of playing techniques from CCR songs. And they are usually very catchy, fun-to-play songs.

Down On The Corner feature a simple opening riff that establishes the groove of the song and makes it instantly recognizable. Then the rhythm guitar comes in with a modified calypso rhythm for the verses and choruses. Good practice for playing syncopated rhythm guitar. After two verses and choruses the opening riff returns, but this time it played with mainly double stops. Good practice for those learning double-stops.

Like many CCR songs it's worth learning and fun to play.
